Welcome, weary traveler, to apebox.org.

This is the personal domain of human being extraordinaire, Jo "directhex" Shields.

Things are a little "in development" right now, but the intention is to provide some handy tips, tools, and other flippantries to those who come seeking enlightenment.

This site was developed using Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, on a Windows Server 2003 machine. The development web server ran Apache Tomcat 5.0.19, with Sun's Java Virtual Machine 1.5.0-beta-b32c. But some rather messy dealings, including an unpleasant experience with some completely incompetant, stupid and unreliable webhosts, forced me to port the lot to PHP (and get a new domain). It's valid HTML 4.01, not that Internet Explorer cares much about that.

I like C#.

There are some site display flaws in browsers which aren't based on the Mozilla Gekko engine, i had to lose a little Opera compatability to get better Internet Explorer compatability.

CodeBox iconCodeBox is destined to become a home for the little snippets of source code I've created over time, ideally with a CVS so real people can enhance it. My only "complete" app so far, released under the GNU GPL, is a Linux GTK2 port of Kickstart, a launcher program for the Doomsday Doom engine replacement. It's written in Perl.

HexBox iconHexBox is the "about me" section, for those of you who want more details on the dashing hunk of man who crafted all of this. It's also got contact details, in case you wanted to flame me or something. I'm not picky.

PictureBox iconPictureBox is a fairly basic image gallery, with assorted pictures of things i want to show people. It makes my life easier for things like web forums if I have somewhere stable to keep my silly images and local mirror of the pancake bunny.

PenguinBox iconPenguinBox is something of a folly. I've become something of a fan of the GNU/Linux operating system recently, and intend to fill this area with tips and tricks I've picked up - plus, most curiously, my little database of the companies that support Linux out in the real world - by putting a penguin (or other sign of Linux support) on, or in the box. Pictures mandatory!
